Links to Software
for Linux
- Kitty terminal — https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/
- VIM Cheat Sheet — /img/vim-cheat-sheet.png Keyboard shortcuts for VIM, a text and code editor that's been around since 1991 — it's a really cool editor. It's not easy to learn at first, but once you do, you'll get hooked on its features.
- Ranger file manager — http://www.linux-magazine.com/Issues/2017/203/Tutorials-Ranger, Cheat Sheet: /i·mg/ranger-cheat-sheet.png
- Remmina remote desktop connection (RDP) — https://remmina.org/ (I actually prefer the simpler option ⇒ faster, from the terminal (xfreerdp))
- Wine to run Windows programs on Linux — https://www.winehq.org/
- QEMU A virtual machine for running Windows, macOS, and any operating system under Linux — https://www.qemu.org/ — A solution, if there happens to be no program with the necessary functionality available for Linux (which is highly unlikely these days). Alternatively, you can install VirtualBox instead of QEMU. https://www.virtualbox.org/, it's a matter of taste
- Flatpak, "fat" (a modern alternative to the Unix approach, which eliminates “dependency hell”), applications (list — https://flathub.org/home), I'm not really a fan of that, but it might come in handy in some situations — https://flatpak.org/
- Snap just like Flatpak, a collection of "fat" soft — https://snapcraft.io/, list: https://snapcraft.io/store
- Joplin notebook, an alternative to Evernote — https://joplinapp.org/

- Text Recognition in images (which is what FineReader was used for in the past) — https://snapcraft.io/frog
- OpenPrinting CUPS — Printer and Printing Management Subsystem — http://127.0.0.1:631/
- OpenWRT Good firmware for network devices — https://openwrt.org/
for Windows
In the picture: one of the reasons I switched to Linux.-)
Everything in a row
- DC++ — https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC%2B%2B I used to use this to search local networks for movies, games, programs containing viruses, and all sorts of things; maybe it’ll come in handy for someone now. I’m not providing a link to the client, since it’s easy to find on your own. Links to DC++ hubs are also easy to find.
- Loading Windows Images — https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows (Sometimes I have to run certain programs on a Windows virtual machine because they don't work under Wine).
- http://cdburnerxp.se/ru/ — CD Burner XP — Disc Burning CD, DVD - Yeah, back in the day we used to burn CDs—that’s ancient history now. I’ve left those and some of the links below here as a relic of the past.-)

- http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html — CPU-Z — Processor Information, the motherboard, memory, and other specifications; it's helpful when you need to, for example, add more memory or check what's already installed.
- https://www.lifewire.com/gparted-review-2624945 — GParted Disk Manager, You can use it to free up space on your hard drive for a new partition for Linux. Then burn an image of any Linux distribution to a USB drive, boot from the USB drive, and install it as a second operating system on your computer. Just make sure you choose the right partition to install the new OS on, so you don’t mess up your Windows.-) Actually, it’s not that hard — if you need help, you can find videos about it on YouTube. What I’m getting at is this: instead of just scrolling out on some like Reddit, you could spend your time solving a little computer puzzle and discovering something new for yourself. Don’t be afraid to experiment with computers (after backing up your valuable data first). Thanks to neural networks like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and the like, it’s easy to get the system working again if you make a mistake — unlike back in the day when there wasn’t even the internet.

- https://www.thunderbird.net/ru/ — Mozilla Thunderbird, We all use email through a web interface in a browser or something similar (on mobile devices). Mozilla’s email client, first of all, offers familiar (or, for some, new) features, and second, I use it as a backup for my emails and contacts—it’s served me faithfully for over two decades.
Email remains my most important channel of communication—a technology that has stood the test of time over decades. Everything is well-organized, and there are options for further organizing information, unlike the limited attempts by messaging apps (which aren’t designed for this) to offer something similar.-)
